May: OK to look into how our enemies recruit & eastern heal

Rep. Peter King, R-NY, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, does not think most Muslims are terrorists. He does think its his job to investigate the means by which some Muslims are being radicalized. I strongly believe that there is a concerted effort by al-Qaida and al-Qaida affiliates to recruit young Muslims living legally in this country, King told National Review Online.

Is it possible that the dollars contributed for these purposes are intended less as gifts than as investments investments that are paying off by saddling America with academics and intelligence analysts who are both misinformed and misleading? Imagine if Chairman King were to hold a hearing at which such questions were asked. The cries of McCarthyite witch hunts would reverberate for days through the concrete canyons of Manhattan.

Then again, it only takes a few.

Joscelyn found no evidence to support Clappers contention that the Brotherhood has decried al-Qaida as a perversion of Islam. Members of the Brotherhood, on occasion, have criticized al-Qaida for killing innocent civilians. But they would include only Muslims in that category not an American setting up a health clinic in Afghanistan or an Israeli child in a playground.

Despite that, the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper, last month told Congress that the Muslim Brotherhood was largely secular and has eschewed violence and has decried al-Qaida as a perversion of Islam. Soon after, a spokesman for the director issued a clarification. Clapper, he saeastern health recruitmentid, is well aware that the Muslim Brotherhood is not a secular organization. The implication, of course, was that his other characterizations of the Brotherhood are correct.

They may not have any trouble finding folks to fight and murder innocent civilians for Allah, but if they are recruiting second or third generation American-born Muslims, they may have trouble finding any suicide bombers. Even prison recruits might hesitate at that.

It is a ct not an opinion that al-Qaida and similar groups are waging what they call a jihad against America, Israel and the West. They target Muslims for incitement and recruitment not least American Muslims.

But it is not only al-Qaida and its affiliates that promote jihad. The Muslim Brotherhood does, too. Thomas Joscelyn, senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (the policy institute I head) has been researching the Brotherhood and notes that its creed, nearly a century old, states plainly:

How does Americas top intelligence official get so much so wrong? Another of my FDD colleagues, Reuel Marc Gerecht, a former CIA operative, noted that group think is an unavoidable, and usually undetectable, affliction for intelligence analysts who want to prosper professionally. Most intelligence analysts are recruited from American universities, more than a few of which have accepted multimillion dollar endowments from Middle Eastern oil billionaires.

So it is very odd that congressional hearings on this issue, which began Thursday, are causing so much controversy, including demonstrations on the streets of New York along with charges of a McCarthyite witch hunt.

Eight days later, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Muslim Brotherhoods spiritual guide, stood in Egypts Tahrir Square addressing hundreds of thousands of supporters. The New York Times reported that Qaradawi struck themes of democracy and pluralism … Scholars who have studied his work say Sheikh Qaradawi has long argued that Islamic law supports the idea of a pluralistic, multiparty, civil democracy.

Clifford D. May is president of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, a policy institute focusing on terrorism.

Among the cts the Times glosses over: Qaradawi has said he vors the spread of Islam until it conquers the entire world … He has issued a twa saying that the abduction and killing of Americans in Iraq is a (religious) obligation. And he has extolled Hitler, saying the Fuhrer managed to put (Jews) inMay: OK to look into how our enemies recruit & eastern heal their place. This was divine punishment for them. Allah willing, the next time will be at the hands of the believers (Muslims).

Allah is our goal. The Prophet is our leader. The Quran is our constitution. Jihad is our way. Death in the service of Allah is the loftiest of our wishes. Allah is great.
