I cannot say I am leading a department which does not have money in three months, when I am told that we have underspent to begin with.

We have underspent in that month because we spent only R1.2bn , said Masualle, adding that underspending was also a concern.
Masualle said the situation was not as dire as that, but admitted R13.3bn was not enough for a department beset with challenges such as lack of human resources and migration of specialist staff to the private sector.
Last week the Dispatch reported that a significant amount of the departments R13.3billion budget had been swallowed up by huge debts from the previous fiscal year.
In May the department projected a R1.2bn spend , but spent R1.4bn.
Masualle was speaking at the King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) sub- regions first Health Summit in Mthatha last week.
A body called the Budget and Expenditure Monitoring Forum (BEMF) said a meeting of its members in May had found that the department had only enough money to last another two months.

Yes we do have problems at the Health Department because its such a sensitive area, conceded Masualle, before dismissing the reports that his department finds itself in a financial crisis.
